In the early 1900's Maine had a small commercial cranberry industry. After many years of inactivity, the industry was reborn around 1989 with encouragement from cranberry processors. During the past decade, approximately 39 farms have developed 267 acres of cranberries. Most (84%) of these bogs are located in Downeast Maine in Washington County. During the fall, cranberry bogs are deep red in color and most bogs are harvested in Maine during the first few weeks of October. |
